COAL TOWNSHIP – A Coal Township man could spend 40 years in prison. The Daily Item reports 40-year-old Christopher Depka appeared in Northumberland County Court on Monday and was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison for the death of his mother, 61-year-old Sarah Jones, in November of 2021. The Daily Item reports Jones was beaten to death with a baseball bat. Depka pleaded guilty to third degree murder in September.
