SHAMOKIN DAM — Capital Power has announced a $1.3 billion investment in Pennsylvania with its acquisition of the Hummel Station natural gas power plant in Shamokin Dam.
The 1,124-megawatt facility employs 30 full-time workers and marks Capital Power’s entry into the Commonwealth. The Canadian company is now the fifth-largest independent natural gas power producer in North America.
Officials say Capital Power plans to invest over $3 billion in the facility over the next decade, including $2 billion in natural gas purchases from within Pennsylvania. The company also hopes to expand the site and partner with data center companies, boosting energy reliability and driving new job creation across the region.
