Group Fighting Encina Plans SU Campus Meeting Tonight

SELINSGROVE – The group fighting the proposed Encina plastics recycling plant is holding a public meeting tonight on the Susquehanna University campus.

The Save our Susquehanna group will be on the SU campus with their ‘Public Meeting for Information about Encina Proposed Plastics Recycling Plant in Point Township’ tonight at 7pm in Fisher Hall.

Encina wants to build a plastics recycling plant on a site along Route 11 in Point Township, they say they’ll ship the products in by truck and by rail, use a process to turn the plastics back into the raw materials for plastics

Opponents are concerned about rail accidents, and high volumes of trucks going through Northumberland and Danville. They have also been seeking detailed information from the company without receiving a satisfactory response. Both sides of the issue have held and attended meetings covering the topic.

The organizers say they’ll share information and answer questions about the proposed facility, they’ll talk about the impacts on the river, health effects, property values and other risks and issues.

The group has more information on Save Our Susquehanna.org. They are also encouraging residents to attend the next Point Township Supervisors meeting and voice their concerns.
