SALEM — The Pennsylvania Game Commission is asking for help finding whoever shot a juvenile bald eagle in Westmoreland County. The bird was found along the Westmoreland Heritage Trail near Beaver Run Reservoir.
The Game Commission says a state game warden responded after the injured eagle was reported in woods along the trail. The bird died before it could be taken to a wildlife rehabilitator.
A postmortem examination found what appeared to be an air-rifle pellet lodged in the eagle’s wing. Officials say the wound was badly infected, indicating the bird may have been shot more than a week earlier.
