Former Sunbury Police Chief Pleads Guilty to Misdemeanors

Sunbury, PA – The Daily Item reports the former Sunbury Police Chief, Brad Hare, entered a guilty plea Wednesday to three misdemeanors in Northumberland County Court. Hare pled guilty to charges of a felony count of theft by unlawful taking and three misdemeanor counts of theft by unlawful taking.  As part of a plea deal, if accepted, the felony count would be dismissed.

State Police said Hare, who was secretary of the Americus Hose Company of Sunbury at the time of the alleged theft, used his role in the company to get access to the company’s office and steal about $6900 from the organization’s safe. He has reportedly paid back the money and the Daily Item reports Hare told the judge he has PTSD, which he receives treatment for.

Hare was released on $15,000 unsecured bail following an arraignment.Hare was with the police department for 22 years and named Chief of Police in November of 2019.
