LEWISBURG – As we wrap up Paint The Valley Pink this month, Evangelical Community Hospital’s Thyra M. Humphreys Center for Breast Health says women shouldn’t let finances get in the way of treatment.
Dr. Daria Keyser says the breast center receives multiple grants and works with the Health Women Program to help cover costs, “Insurance has to cover a screening mammogram for all women over the age of 40. However, beyond that, sometimes women need extra testing, extra imaging, and this is sometimes not covered. So no woman should not get a mammogram because of cost.”
In addition, Dr. Keyser also says the breast center can provide an all-female staff to make patients feel more comfortable, “To the front desk, to the mammographer, to the nurses and the surgeon…if people choose that, they are able to have an all-female team just to make them feel more comfortable for such an intimate exam.”
