AOAA Appoints Officers During First Meeting of 2026

COAL TOWNSHIP — The News Item reports the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area Authority discussed current projects, future events and two upcoming reclamation projects during its first monthly meeting of the new year on Monday.

The newspaper reported the first order of business was the appointment of officers. Pat Mack will serve as chairman; Chris Grayson, vice chairman; Mike Schwartz, treasurer; and Dave Crowl, secretary. Mack reminded the public that meeting times have been changed to 4 p.m.

They also discussed upcoming projects. The News Item reports the largest project, according to Porzi, will eliminate abandoned mine subsidences and open portals within a 1-mile stretch near the Miner’s Cross, which overlooks Trevorton, on Big Mountain. The other project is planned to eliminate similar hazards within a 1/4-mile stretch in an area known as Point Breeze, on the ridge of Mahanoy Mountain. Those locations are not currently open to riders.
