SHAMOKIN – The Shamokin Rotary Club is bringing back an in-person Turkey Trot in Shamokin on Thanksgiving Day starting at 8am at Kemp Memorial Stadium. The event was cancelled last year due to the pandemic but will be returning and is sure to help revitalize business interest in Shamokin.
Matthew Atchinson, Club Secretary, says the Trot is for families and any interested in running or walking in, “It’s a classic 5K, so about three miles. It runs around the Shamokin Area School, so a little bit up hill, a little downhill and a lot of flat. And it starts right where it ends.”
Sherrie Shebelsky, Chairman of the Club, says donations from Trot go back into the community, “We support a lot of the different projects in the community. We just most recently helped sponsored the Halloween Parade and then we also help support teams and then we’ve supported the Oasis Center that we have in Shamokin.”
“You can show up the day of Thanksgiving and register. Or you can pre-register by grabbing a registration form on-line on our Facebook page. Or you can stop in at Bader’s for one. If you’re going the day off, go at 8 o’ clock; the race starts promptly at 9,”Shebelsky said.
