Northumberland County Could Face Lawsuit Over Infant’s Death
Infant Death Could Have County Facing Lawsuit
BERWICK — Northumberland County is facing a pending lawsuit from its former Sheriff and his wife over the death of their infant daughter.
The News-Item says the attorney for Chad Reiner and his wife, Stephanie, made that pending lawsuit known Thursday, this follows the September 23 death of their daughter.
Through their attorney, the couple claims there were mistakes made involving emergency dispatching and a delayed ambulance response contributed to the infant’s death.
In a letter provided to The News-Item, Attorney Franklin Kepner of Berwick makes a formal request for the county to preserve and not alter any records or recordings in their possession. They’ll seek the items related to a 9-1-1 call by Stephanie Reiner and the death of her infant daughter.
The News-Item says Northumberland County Solicitor Frank Garrigan confirmed the county received the letter from Kepner.
According to The News-Item, a December 17 Facebook post from Stephanie Reiner stated there were four 911 calls attempted during the medical emergency. She says there were two ambulance services on duty within 10 minutes of her residence but she says those ambulances were never contacted by dispatchers.
