Rent, Utility Help Still Big Needs from 211

WILKES-BARRE – Valley residents are still dialing 2-1-1 for assistance with rent and housing and helping pay the utility bills. That’s the word from the Family Service Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania, who’s been sending out monthly 2-1-1 reports.

The association says nearly 150 contacts from the area were made in April, most of which included help paying monthly rent or needing various housing assistance. There were also calls asking for help with utility payments such as electricity and heat. Similar needs were also asked for among residents in the entire northeast region, with over 2,600 contacts made last month.

Union – 32 contacts made in April; 11 listening calls, 7 for housing, and 6 for rent

Snyder – 21 contacts made ; 9 rent; 6 food pantries

Northumberland – 85 contacts made; 30 electric, 25 rent; 11 for water payments;

Montour –11 contacts made; 7 rent, 5 for community shelters

Region – 2,663 contacts made; 808 rent, 585 electricity payments, 414 for food pantries
