DANVILLE – A 20-year-old Bloomsburg University student from York, Pa. was killed in that icy fall Friday in Montour County.
Saturday, the Montour County Coroner and first responders revealed the death. Original reports indicated he was ‘rescued and hospitalized.’
Greg Anstine of the York area, was pronounced dead at 5:22pm Friday from multiple blunt force injuries, according to coroner Scott Lynn.
Fellow Bloomsburg student Kyra Destefano also fell and was admitted to Geisinger, she was treated and released.
Anstine and Destefano lost their footing at a vista known as “The Pinnacle” along Sharp Ridge Road. Destefano said she fell off a cliff and dropped about 50 feet. She was able to call 911 at 3:05 PM and emergency crews from Northumberland and Montour counties arrived on the scene. They lowered ropes and harnesses and pulled Destefano up to safety.
Rescuers said Anstine fell even farther and had to be located by rescuers using drones. The Press Enterprise reports he was a Dean’s List stduent. Elysburg, Southside and Washies Fire companies as well as the Riverside police were all called to the scene.
