“Above Expectation” Says CEO of United Way Reflecting on the 2021 Donations

SUNBURY– Despite the pandemic, donations and grants increased in 2021 for the regional United Ways. President and CEO of the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way and the Columbia and Montour County United Way says 2021 donation numbers were “above expectation.”

Adrienne Mael told WKOK Sunrise that she had no specific goal for the campaign but received great support from the community. She emphatically thanked everyone who contributed and volunteered.

Columbia and Montour counties received about a half million in donations and grants, and Greater Susquehanna received $2 million to give back to those seeking assistance, “I always like to say we did great. I think with COVID that both Greater Susquehanna, and Columbia, and Montour fundraising was above expectation.”

Mael says making a difference starts with a pro-active approach. She says, “I think a lot of the work people don’t see is behind the scenes, the meetings with our great non-profits, with people in the community to say, ‘Hey how can we stop this at its root…Try to understand how we can do intervention work before the substance abuse disorder.’” You can hear her full interview on the WKOK Podcast Page.
