5-Mill Real Estate Tax Increase Approved in Northumberland Co

SUNBURY – The Northumberland County Commissioners Tuesday adopted a $91 million 2025 budget, including a 5-mill real estate tax increase. They say the average annual increase will range from $50 to $150 for the average property owners.

Commissioner Chairman Sam Schiccatano assured residents the county is financially stable, stating, “We are not broke” and he said only one tax went up in the county, while many other taxes elsewhere are increasing, “Most of us have municipalities and municipality taxes are much higher than the county taxes.”

Commissioner Joe Klebon said the increase will generate $3.5 million in revenue, crucial for salaries, health insurance, and prison costs. Non-bargaining employees will receive a 2.5% salary increase starting in January. Their next meetings are set for Jan. 2 and Jan. 7 at the county administration building.
