SUNBURY—A Sunbury fire police officer was punched by a man whose apartment was on fire Friday night. No other details on the assault are out yet but fire officials say the fire victim was taken into custody and the fire fighter was checked out by medical personnel.
Fire chief Paul Brown said volunteers made a good stop on the fire at 40 South Seventh Street, he said the flames were consuming the front of the building when they arrived about 5:30pm. Police were first on the scene and said there was no entrapment and everyone got out okay.
Brown said cause of the fire is not known, a total of six people were displaced and they will stay with relatives. Brown said the home is uninhabitable and no damage estimate is available. In addition to Sunbury volunteers, crews responded from Stonington, Upper Augusta Township, and Selinsgrove. The ‘Rapid Intervention Teams’ from Middleburg and Shamokin also responded.
