SUNBURY — A singer who got thunderous applause Thursday night helped launch the 2016 Valley’s Got Talent competition.
Desirae Mausteller won $400 and the opportunity to perform at the Sunbury River Festival main stage.
Second place went to Aubrey Chappell, she won $300. Third went to Olivia Dunkle, who won $200, and fourth place went to Shawnee Fox Floyd, who won $100.
The event began with Sunbury River Festival co-chair Slade Shreck announcing that Service Electric Cablevision had upped the prize money by $100 per place, and created a fourth place $100 winner. SECV8 will show the competition on cable in the days ahead.
There were 16 competitors, and four judges including state house member Lynda Schlegel Culver, Spyglass Ridge Winery’s and SECV8’s Tom Webb, Francis Scarcella of The Daily Item, and Ellen Boyer-retired Shikellamy drama teacher.
The Valley’s Got Talent is the first event of the annual festival, which Friday and Saturday features hundreds of vendors on Front Street and in the Sunbury River Front Park.
