Reports: Construction workers open sinkhole in Shamokin

SHAMOKIN – A 25 foot deep sinkhole opened up Friday in Shamokin.  The Daily Item reports Affordable Demolition and Construction was doing excavation work on Friday when a sinkhole from an abandoned mine shaft opened up.  The 20 foot wide sink hole is located on the empty lot at 649 S. Diamond Street.  The worker and excavator escaped unharmed.  The state Department of Environmental Protection will investigate on Monday.
