Police shot a man who charged at them with an ax

FEAT_POLICE_GENERIC2BLOOMSBURG – In Columbia County, police say a police officer from Scott Township shot and wounded a man who charged at them with an ax and a baseball bat. 38-year-old Jonathan Young of Bloomsburg was injured in the incident.

Around 2pm on Lackawanna Avenue, police say they were there to take Young into custody because of a ‘302 involuntary mental health commitment.’ Young first barricaded himself in his trailer, and then when officers got in, he charged at them.

Young was shot twice by Sergeant Joseph Grassley. Young was taken to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville; his condition is not being disclosed. Sgt. Grassley was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released.

Lawmen say a thorough ‘use of force’ investigation is underway in Columbia County.
