DANVILLE – A Mahoning Township Supervisor has apologized after a crash in which he is now facing a Driving Under the Influence of alcohol. The Daily Item reports John Whelan crashed his pickup truck into two parked vehicles and a tree along Bloom Road Sunday night. Whelan read from prepared statement, saying he regrets his actions and apologized to township residents and employees.
According to The Daily Item, Mahoning Township police say the 63-year-old traveled off Bloom Road around 6:15 p.m. Sunday. He was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI, and test results confirmed it Thursday.
Township Supervisor Vice Chairman T.S. Scott says the board will let law enforcement handle the situation first. Whelan was sworn into office to a two-year term last January.
