UPDATE: Two fires reported in Shamokin area, firefighter injured

SHAMOKIN – Two structure fires were reported in the Shamokin area, injuring one firefighter.

Northumberland County Communications tells us the first fire was reported just after noon at a house on East Sunbury Street in the city.   No injuries were reported there and the fire took about  45 minutes to contain. Shamokin, Coal Township and Mount Carmel Fire Companies responded to that blaze.

Firefighters were then sent to another working fire at a structure at 3922 Upper Road in East Cameron Township. That was called in around 1:20 p.m.  Shortly upon arrival, fire crews were told to evacuate the structure. Northumberland County Communications tells us one firefighter was injured and taken to the hospital for evaluation.  Crews were on the scene for about three hours.  Ten different fire companies responded to that fire in lower Northumberland County.

Those departments were:  East Cameron, Trevorton, Shamokin, Coal Township, Elysburg, Overlook, Mount Carmel, Lavelle, Fountain Springs, and Lower Augusta.
