MONTANDON – A brush fire along Route 45 in the Montandon area of Northumberland County scorched about 4 acres Saturday. The fire was out of control and spreading when Lewisburg fire fighters and additional volunteers from Milton, White Deer, Potts Grove, along with Turbot and Point Townships, got to the scene about 2pm Saturday.

Lewisburg fire Chief Jamie Blount tells us, dry and windy conditions spread the fire quickly, but he says at no point were any structures threatened. He thanked the responding mutual aid companies and a local citizen who used a tractor and farm plow to help control the fire.

Chief Blount said he wants to remind Valley residents to be very cautious when using any open flames or heat sources, and that the dry conditions lately have increased the fire risk. He also reminded residents to call 9-1-1 immediately when they see any type of fire, saying, ‘time is of the essence!’
