Giving Children with Disabilities a Chance on the Field

A Special Needs VIP AYSO Soccer Camp will be held July 8, 10 and 12 for all local children with special needs who are unable to participate in regular AYSO Soccer due to their disability.

The camp, offered free of charge, will take place on Smith Field in Middleburg from 6-8 p.m. and will not cap the number of children able to join. Participants will scrimmage a local U-14 AYSO team who will understand what the VIP players can and cannot do.

“We started this league because my daughter wanted to play soccer like her sister, but physically she cannot keep up with the physically abled children,” explained Tiffany Knepp, of Middleburg. “This will help kids with disabilities feel like they can do a sport just like their friends and hopefully, make some new friends and memories along the way.”

Other AYSO regions have offered this type of league, but it is the first of its kind in this area. If interest remains, Knepp says they will continue to offer the camp annually.
