SUNBURY – After announcing his re-election bid for Northumberland County commissioner, Vinny Clausi was told WKOK he is withdrawing his name from the race. In a statement, Clausi says he made the decision after long conversations with family and friends. He says the hardest part about reaching the decision is letting down county citizens who offered their support.
He says he was not running for personal gain, but to work to protect the taxpayers. Clausi served as county commissioner from 2008 through 2015. He first announced he was running for commissioner again last December. Clausi says although he won’t be an elected official, he says he won’t be silent and continue to expose corruption in county government. See his full statement below.
Full statement from Vinny Clausi:
“I am announcing that I will not be a candidate for Northumberland County Commissioner. I made this difficult decision after long conversations with my family and friends. Although I am sad about the choice, I know it is best for myself and my family.
The hardest part about reaching this decision was letting down citizens from throughout Northumberland County who have offered me their support and encouragement since my announcement last month. I am confident that if I would remain in the race, I would be elected Commissioner.
For the eight years that I served as County Commissioner, 2008 through 2015, I fought to clean up Northumberland County government. I changed the way county government does business, exposing waste, fraud, and abuse while saving taxpayers millions of dollars. I am very proud of those accomplishments.
I was planning to run again for Commissioner, not for personal gain, but to work to protect the taxpayers. Although I will not be an elected official, I will not be silent. I will continue to expose corruption wherever it is found and join with the citizens of Northumberland County to demand accountability of our elected officials.”
